LED fog lights on Lancer X

Actually, the light of standard fog lights on Mitsubishi Lancer X completely satisfied me. But, as for many cars, the only insufficiency is that the glass of fog lights have been broken with regular frequency.

 

First time, as a good car owner, I have changed them fully. 

 

The second time, I have to change not only glasses, but the fog light in the assembly itself, as for the reason of the stone the deflector and the lamp were damaged.

 

 

Third time, I have decided to act radically and installed the polycarbonate glasses, but as they are not sold separately on the fog lights of Lancer X, I have cut them from polycarbonate bottle for 19 l, which is installed on the water cooler. On the bottom of such bottle you will find the triangle sign with number 7 in it.

 

In 2017 I glued these glasses from polycarbonate bottle in my fog lights and for the present day they are in good condition.

 

The only thing, if one rides with switched-on fog lights, then due to the fact that polycarbonate glass of the bottle is thin, it heats from the lamp and there could be a protrusion. In my case, such protrusion does not effect on the sealing. But I had got an idea to change the fog lights.

 

I did not want to trade bad for worse, that is why I refused to buy the new standard fog lights. I have decided to buy something new and modern and my choice was the fully LED fog lights.

Reading the reviews for different fog lights, I have decided to buy LED fog lights from Aliexpress.

 

The basic advantages are that there are many good reviews, as these LED fog lights are installed not only on Lancer X, but on many others models of car trade marks, the difference is only in fasteners.

 

Also the manufacturer promises up to 30 000 hours of operation. And no less importance is the fact that the there are a polycarbonate glass and the aluminium housing.

 

There are 2 types of LED fog lights, single mode (as I have) and double mode where 2 luminescences white and yellow are combined.

 

As for disadvantages, the given fog lights are adapted only for restyled Lancer X (before 2011 year made), they are not adapted for before restyling Lancer X due to different fastenings and the angle of fog light itself.

 

For before restyling Lancer X you have to buy the transition fastening, that are printed on 3D printer, or install the fog lights from Kalina or Vesta.

 

For the purpose of installation the LED fog lights close by the fastenings of my bumper, it is necessary to grind the plastic intensifier on all 4 lug bosses of fog light. It does not effect much on the rigidity.

 

Also, I have decided to coat glasses of fog lights with the film, which will protect them from small stones, but it is not necessary.

 

Installation of new LED fog lights is simple, remove old and install the new one. Everything is connected standard.

 

After the first testing switching-on, I understood that the installation was not In vain as the light is very qualitative.

 

In the nearest future I will go and adjust the light of for lights. And in the meantime I will adjust them independently by standard manual for repair and operation of Mitsubishi Lancer X.

 

Stand the car on distance of 3 m from the wall, where the fog lights will shine, in my case this is the wings of a gate.

 

I will adjust by 1 fog light, covering the second and both front lights, in order to avoid the extra light.

 

On an even surface, measure the height from the surface bottom on which the car stands up to the center of the fog light, in my case it is 35 cm.

 

Measure and mark the height of 35 cm on the wings of a gate.

 

In the manual for repair and operation is said that the standard vertical value of the fog lights light is equal to 60 mm.

 

It means that we need to subtract 6 mm from 35 cm and get 29 cm. Mark the height of 29 cm on the wings of a gate. Exactly on the height of 29 cm from surface the upper light boundary of fog light must shine. Adjust the light of the fog light with the help of adjustment screw. After that adjust the second fog light.

 

As the result, the light is just good and illuminates the surface quite qualitative. The manufacturer also notices that one can use the given LED fog lights as the source of the low beam, but only after preliminary adjustment on the car repair shop.

 

 

In any case, it is necessary to have an adjustment after installation of given LED fog lights or else you will blind the counter traffic.
